Don’t Get Your News from Memes

I can’t believe I have to say this.

Memes are a quick and fun way to share information––usually jokes, satire or a platform to make a point. But somewhere along the way people have decided to make memes as a way to share “news”. I put news in parentheses because it’s usually impossible to trace the source or the creator itself. Believing memes is the new believing an urban myth.

Getting information from memes is the laziest way to soak in information and is a direct result from years and years of people losing their attention spans. Memes require little to no critical thinking and usually are just confirmation bias pieces, OR they’re memes created to mock what some people will actually believe!

The corporate media isn’t perfect and definitely has an agenda, but it’s not all fake, like our president likes to declare. I like to get my information from reputable sources in both mainstream and independent formats. And those people are people who studied journalism or have great knowledge in their field.

Challenge yourself, don’t limit yourself.
